1. What's your advice for a candidate campaigning door-to-door?

There's some different schools about what to do when you're at the door. Remember as a candidate the most important thing that you can do is get to the door and meet the voter. You only have a few seconds to make a good impression. We spent a long time talking about what should I do when I'm at the door. My advice to candidates is keep it simple. We had a script that I could read in about 12 seconds or so. If somebody wanted to talk to me, they could have an opening to do so. If they didn't, they would usually just smile, take my literature and I was happy to let them go back in the house. The key thing is they've made their first impression. There's a lot of discussion about what you should do with the door. Should you give them a petition? Should you try to draw them out? My advice to people is residents are busy, give them the opportunity to learn a little bit about who you are and then take the next step themselves.
