DG Stringer, Special Assistant to the Mayor, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Auto Transcript:
1. What do you think is the biggest challenge for new candidates?
Hi I'm DG Stringer. I'm a special assistant with Mayor Watson here in Ottawa. I think one of the biggest challenges that newcomers to municipal politics face when they decide to get into a race is connecting with people and the importance of connecting with people, the importance of knocking on doors and making phone calls. Because really that's who you're going to go represent are the residents of your ward the residents of your neighbourhood. And so getting out there and not focusing too much on the social media or on the policies or on all these different kind of complexities or like high level kind of things, but really going door to door listening to the concerns and the issues that people have for their community I think is a stumbling block that a lot of new candidates actually don't really realize; that it's really one of the fundamental and base things that you really need to get right in a campaign.
