On your campaign, you must do three things to win: persuade undecided voters, identify your supporters, and get out the vote. Canvassing is the single-most valuable activity you can do on your campaign, because it has elements of all three, and is absolutely fundamental to the second and third. Canvassing is the act of going to voters where they live, in person (aka "door-knocking" or the "hard" canvass), or by phone. This note will focus on the hard canvass. There are also different ways to organize your canvass teams: some canvasses will include the candidate (the candidate canvass) but many will not, particularly if you have a large team of volunteers. Let's talk about the candidate canvass first.
