Bridging the Diversity Gap in Canada’s Municipal Politics

Summary

Under the leadership of the Open Democracy Project, the DemocracyKit aims to provide open access to vetted campaign tools and resources for all candidates. Combined with the programs and resources of existing civic and political organizations, DemocracyKit aims to level the playing field for grassroots diverse candidates across the country. However, these resources and efforts are not a panacea to bridge the diversity gap, and will need to be combined with efforts to change and reform Canada’s electoral and political system that continue to hinder aspiring candidates, from underrepresented groups, to explore, prepare, and run campaign, and serve their respected communities.
