"Our Environmental Issues Discussion series is returning from our summer break, and we're kicking things back into gear with a discussion about the connections between environment, gender and politics in Calgary.

Municipal governments have an important role in local environmental decision-making, influencing the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we use. The workshop will examine the main factors influencing environmental decision-making in Calgary through a gendered lens. It focuses on the following questions:

  • How are environmental policy decisions made at the municipal level?
  • What role does gender play in those decisions?
  • What are the opportunities and barriers for women to contribute to these decisions?

We'll be joined by Claire Beckstead, Mitigation Coordinator in the Climate Change team at the City of Calgary.

Claire works to navigate environmental issues at a local level, and will guide us in a discussion about the connections between the municipal governments we elect, the environmental decisions that shape our city, and the lives of the women who call it home.

This event is open to anyone who identifies as a woman. Child minding will be available. For more information, visit http://www.womenscentrecalgary.org/events/environmentourcityourchoice/ or call 403-264-1155.
